On July 4th, 2017, the worst terrorist attack in United States history took place. Seven planes hit buildings in five highly populated cities. As the country is reeling, Elise McCoy steps forward as the voice of the American people. She authors the most viral White House petition in history, calling for radical changes in national security measures.

However, as Elise leads the charge for increased security measures, her husband Cal fears that she is going too far. As tensions mount between Cal and Elise, Elise is unknowingly placing herself in greater and greater danger. As the danger increases, it becomes apparent that only Cal can save his wife from her own cause.

The Chip eBook Stephen Altrogge

The idea is interesting, but the positions taken by the two main characters (husband and wife) are not clearly defined, insufficiently argued, and not realistic that she would be duped this quickly. The wife actually comes off looking really stupid (dumb female), while the husband is the realistic and rational one. On the other hand, husband totally helpless and severly inadequate. The underlying scare is not sufficiently developed. The plot is idiotic - how could this bill win by a landslide? The president is needlessly and poorly set up as the "bad guy". All politicians are corrupt and discuss their duplicity on an open phone line, right? The worst part is that by the time you get to know the characters and start kinda rooting for them, the book just suddenly ends. No resolution, no joining up with other resistance fighters, no chase scene(s), no realization that she's been had, it is just suddenly over: "Now we were outlaws". I found myself poking my screen in frustration to make it go to the next page. Nothing. Horrible. If I could rate this horrible excuse for a book/novella negative 3 stars I would. Don't waste your time on it. I rarely delete books from my device and purchase list, but this one has got to go. I don't want to inadvertently advise anybody to buy it, because I find it in my list a few years from now, after I have recovered from being severly disappointed by this "thing".

The Chip eBook Stephen Altrogge Reviews

but, this short story is simply an introduction. As such, the characters are very one-dimensional, but there is promise in this beginning.
Looking for a classic, "the powers-that-be are out to get you" novel? This takes place in the very near future, and the similarities to today are erie. A good, fun read.
What's the point? The book starts slow and then cuts off just when you think it is getting a little bit interesting. Not worth the time spent reading it.
Total crap. Seriously bad. The plot is shallow, the characters are not even one dimensional, it attempts to be clever and fails miserably.
This was a very intriguing futuristic story with a cliff hanger ending. Hopefully the author is planning a sequel soon.
This is a very engaging story, one you could almost picture happening given current events. Mr. Altrogge created very interesting characters and really pulls you into their story. Looking forward to future installments.
What would you do if the person nearest and dearest to you suddenly became an overnight celebrity for a cause which you utterly and completely disagreed with? This story tackles that question as a husband and wife struggle to understand each other as the government seeks to implement a very controversial method of keeping its citizens safe.

A very interesting premise and a story I really enjoyed reading. It's pretty short (I finished it in under two hours) but very engrossing.
